SKYE'S THE LIMIT...

Speaking out event - poem by Skye

"Night Skye Clouds" is a poem that Skye wrote during her Senior year in High School.  Before reciting the poem, Skye spoke out from her heart about her experience with rape at a public unveiling event for a mural related to sexual violence and speaking out.

“So proud of her that day! She did an excellent job. So much work to get to that point. It was a reclaiming for her. My heart breaks.” — Kathy Gates

Night Skye Clouds

Your life floats in front of you. Dangling by a string.
For once you cannot make a choice.
We are the future? The future of tomorrow? We are the future until we place that weight on our children. Unless we spread our wings and fly forward.
The pain may be great.
Your soul may be stuck in a dark place.
But deep down inside I know I still have a heart that is willing to try, willing to fly forward and love.
Fly away from all my pain and hurt. We may be the future but we are also the heroes that give them a voice to tell their story.
The real truth that breaks us away from our deep dark secrets.
Makes us a stronger person than we’d ever thought we would be.
We are the future.

SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY!

Skye's speech at school on bullying...

This was from her senior year in high school.  She read this to the whole school at their All School Forum.  At the time, people were being rude and mean and she didn’t like it so she wrote this, stood up and read it to the whole school…

We all make mistakes and say things we wish we hadn't at some point in our lives. I have, and I am sincerely sorry if I have hurt anybody.

Delta strives to be a positive community where students learn to be independent and responsible for their actions. Each individual makes up what our community is. Do we want a positive, safe community? or do we want a negative community? I believe we should start anew and be nice to everybody. If you don't have anything nice to say don’t say it at all. And
we do not know every ones’ stories, so do not judge them.

Personally, I am getting emotionally stressed by some of the things I am hearing, seeing and experiencing at Delta. For example many of you haven't gotten to know me enough to know my story. In the past couple of days a few of you have said things to me and have treated me in a way that have triggered horrible memories of my past. This is a form of bullying and it is not accepted at Delta or anywhere. And nobody deserves it.

If not already, let's learn to be independent and responsible for our actions. I am here to learn and to also graduate high school :). Delta is one of the coolest schools I've been to, and I've been to a lot. So instead of being negative, we should be positive and work on some conflict resolutions.

Thank you, I appreciate your time.
