Ever wonder why THEY act in such annoying ways? Dr. Robert Rhoton, CEO of the Arizona Trauma Institute will be introducing an easy to grasp overview of the science of trauma, toxic stress and adversity. In this 3-hour presentation on the impact of trauma’s far reaching affects you will find practical and useful tools for better communication, and relationships. Early life trauma, toxic stress and adversity impact the brain and nervous system, and even genetic expression. Understanding the basics of the body’s threat/stress response and the predictable responses will help increase compassion for others and enhance empathy in our interactions with family, school and work. Outline: · Starting with the body, not emotions and behavior · Correct responses that are annoying · How the body self corrects · See emotions, thinking and behavior as biological responses · Practical grasp of what should be happening · How to increase personal resilience

Understanding Addiction

Description This training will provide a basic review of trauma, exploring how trauma is created and stored in the brain, body and nervous system. Fundamental information provided regarding how substances and their long- and short-term effects help people deal with trauma symptoms in the form of mitigating and adapting behaviors. Training includes exploration of motivation and meaning behind behaviors related to addiction and recovery from addiction. Attendees will also receive thorough overview of various types of compulsions and addictions as well as biology and predisposition to addiction. Training will provide explanation of the culture of addiction and treatment, a focus on moving from a pathogenic approach of treating addiction to a SALUTOGENIC approach. Finally, the discussion will look at current assessment tools and treatment processes for addiction offering insight and direction on how to enhance trauma informed delivery.

Understanding Harm Reduction and Substance Overdose Prevention

Description:
The substance misuse prevention team at Asylum Advocates has partnered with Skye’s the Limit Foundation to prepare harm reduction programming around fentanyl and fentanyl-laced drug use. This program will include a comprehensive training on the facts around fentanyl, various harm reduction approaches that reduce danger for fentanyl users, a Narcan administration training, and education on stigma and how to combat it in communities. This program will provide training to organizations that serve people who use substances as well as to Parent groups. After this training, an individual will understand how to implement harm reduction practices in their organization, and be a distributor of harm reduction materials in the community.

At Neighborhood Ministries, we are passionate about equipping and empowering people to become job ready, financially stable and self-sufficient. The desire is to help youth and adults reach self-sufficiency through resource awareness, employment training and life skills development. Workforce Wednesdays topics include: Resume Building Elevator Pitch Scholarship Information and Writing Workshop Career Explorations Financial Literacy, including budgeting, credit recovery, and accountability and support teams
